Beating Like a Drum
Panfire Kinship
Steelpan
About
Vibrant steelpan melody weaves through layers of tuned percussion, propelled by syncopated rhythms and a lively calypso groove that captures the essence of community unity. A full steelband ensemble featuring tenor pan, double second, cello, and bass pans interlocks with timbales, congas, and cowbell for raw, acoustic energy reminiscent of Trinidad Carnival street marches. Dynamic builds and polyphonic interplay evoke heartfelt gatherings, with metallic resonance driving festive, uplifting momentum.
Lyrics
Gather close, feel the fire inside Hearts unite, in the warmth we confide
From the first light breaking through the trees Neighbors call, sharing dreams with ease Laughter rises like a morning breeze Hands entwined, we plant the seeds we seize Stories told in the circle's glow Faces lit by the love we know Through the storms, we stand and grow Together strong, our spirits flow
Oh community, our endless song Where we belong, we all get along Joy in every step, every voice so strong Lift each other high, all day long Community, beating like a drum Forever one, where we come from
When the shadows fall and night draws near Friends appear, chasing every fear Feasts are shared, no stranger here Bonds that heal, crystal clear Children dance in the open air Elders smile without a care Wounds we mend with tender care In this home, beyond compare
Oh community, our endless song Where we belong, we all get along Joy in every step, every voice so strong Lift each other high, all day long Community, beating like a drum Forever one, where we come from
In the quiet moments, truth unfolds Roots run deep in souls we've told No one walks this road alone Our light shines, brightly shown
Feel the pull, the joyful call Rise together, never fall
Hearts in rhythm, standing tall
Oh community, our endless song Where we belong, we all get along Joy in every step, every voice so strong Lift each other high, all day long Community, beating like a drum Forever one, where we come from
Gather close, forever we confide Community, our fire, our pride
