Jazz manouche
Jazz manouche, also known as Gypsy jazz or Sinti jazz, is a high-energy acoustic style originating in 1930s Paris. Led by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, it is defined by the propulsive 'la pompe' swing rhythm, virtuosic lead guitar and violin solos, chromatic harmonies, and intuitive ensemble dialogue, typically performed without drums.
Origin: Paris, France; pioneered by Romani (Sinti/Manouche) guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stéphane Grappelli in the Quintette du Hot Club de France.
Era: 1930s-1950s origins in Paris swing era; revived post-WWII and in modern acoustic jazz scenes.
