Nanguan

Nanguan (南管) is a traditional chamber music genre originating from Quanzhou, Fujian, China, and preserved as a vital cultural heritage in Taiwan. It is characterized by slow, meditative tempos, pentatonic melodic structures, and a highly refined, heterophonic performance style. The music features intimate, unamplified instrumentation and Hokkien vocals that recite classical poetry with delicate, melismatic phrasing.
