Chacarera

Chacarera is a lively traditional folk music and dance genre from northern Argentina, characterized by syncopated 6/8 rhythms, energetic rasgueado guitar strumming, call-and-response vocals, and themes of rural life and celebration.

Origin: Northern Argentina, especially Santiago del Estero, Salta, and Tucumán provinces; influenced by indigenous, Spanish, and African elements.

Era: Late 19th century to present; roots in colonial gaucho traditions, popularized in 20th-century folk revival.
