Huapango
Huapango (son huasteco) is a traditional Mexican folk music and dance from the Huasteca region, characterized by fast tempos, syncopated 3/4 or 6/8 rhythms, virtuoso violin leads, intricate plucking on huapanguera and jarana huasteca, and high-energy falsetto vocals with glissandos and improvisational flair.
Origin: Huasteca region of eastern Mexico: Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Hidalgo, and northern Puebla.
Era: Traditional 19th-century origins in the Huasteca region, evolved significantly in the 20th century, and remains vital in modern folk festivals and cultural events.
