Norteño is a foundational genre from northern Mexico, characterized by the interplay between the button accordion and the bajo sexto. It fuses European polka and waltz rhythms with traditional Mexican storytelling, known as corridos. The sound is defined by its raw, acoustic, and rhythmic drive, often focusing on themes of rural life, migration, and social narratives.
